A programme to recreate the sophisticated atmosphere of an Italian Renaissance Court, inspired by the famous Book of the Courtier by Baldassarre Castiglione. Text and music alternate to introduce some of its main topics: poetry and jokes, war, love, the courtisan's sprezzatura ... The Book of the Courtier is set at the Montefeltro Court of Urbino, where Castiglione stayed in 1507.

castiglione

It was written as a dialogue, a very fashioned literary form at the time, between the Count and his Companions, among whom Pietro Bembo.

Evangelina as well offers us a Dialogue in music with her Companions: two singers, viol, recorder and harpsichord. Four ideal parts - jokes, war, sprezzatura, love - collect instrumental and vocal music by Spinacino, Ludovico Milanese, Obrecht, Desprez, Capirola, Dalza, Francesco Patavino, Guglielmo Ebreo da PesaroMarchetto Cara, Giovanni Bassano, Jacopo da Fogliano and Philippe Verdelot.

A tribute could not miss to Luys Milan, best known for his Libro de musica de vihuela de mano intitulado El Maestro (1536), but himself a poet and author of El Cortesan, published in 1561 and specifically referred and modeled on Castiglione's one.
